Institutional Diversity, Equity, and Access
Student Diversity Equity and Access
The Student Diversity Equity and Access (SDEA) team works with our Haverford campus communities to support students, promote campus-wide social justice education, and assist in animating Haverford’s commitment to becoming an antiracist college.
Under the Division of Institutional Diversity, Equity, and Access (IDEA), we work to invigorate the DEI initiatives at various levels of the institution. We will also continue the crucial work of THRIVE (Truth, Healing, Resiliency, Inclusion, and Equity), the campus-wide program Joyce Bylander, the former Interim Dean of the College, implemented and oversaw that focuses on racial healing and social justice at Haverford.
Overseen by Raquel Esteves-Joyce, assistant vice president for student diversity, equity, and access, the SDEA team includes:
- Center for Gender Resources and Sexuality Equity (GRASE)
- John P. Chesick Scholars Program for First-Generation/Low-Income Students
- Marilou Allen Office of Service and Community Collaboration
- Office of International Student Support
- Race and Ethnicity Education Office (REEO)
- Religious and Spiritual Life
- Quaker Affairs

Eliana Brown
Hello everyone, my name is Eliana Brown. As a COML, I am an elected student of color who mediates disagreements between different parties. We use peace circles and restorative justice practices in order to come to a solution that works for both parties. I am a sophomore from San Francisco, California. On campus, I am a member of the Haverford Varsity Volleyball Team and Haverford Best Buddies Club. My hobbies include watching tv, reading, and playing with my cats. Contact me at: ebrown3 [at] haverford.edu
Sydney Rucker
Hi guys, I’m Sydney Rucker and I serve as one of your elected COMLs! I am a sophomore from Nashville, TN, a Political Science major, and a potential Spanish minor. Throughout this position I provide mediation under restorative justice practices as a fellow BIPOC student. While COML work is specifically catered towards BIPOC and minority students, we do serve the entire Haverford population. I am also a member of the Black Student Union and am currently serving on the Haverfest committee for the spring 2024 semester. Contact me at: srucker [at] haverford.edu.
SDEA Intern
Dominique Monroy
Dominique is a junior Political Science major and Peace, Justice, Human Rights concentrator here at Haverford. She started working at the SDEA office this year and feels very lucky to have the opportunity to help out! When not in the flurry of the academic grind, she is likely out running for Hav’s XC and Track teams, reading, or out and about in Philadelphia with the Tri-Co Philly program!
