Latinx Cultural Center Open House Craft Night - September 7th
Teach in - September 14th at the LCC - An initiative from the Institutional Memory committee in its fourth annual edition, this event is an opportunity for students (especially first-years) to learn about the history of the Latinx Cultural Center at Haverford over lunch.
Primer Perreo - September 14th - Every year ALAS throws an event called Primer Perreo, to start of LatinX Heritage Month. It is an ALAS tradition that has been going on for years and brings together the whole LatinX Tri-Co community together to dance and celebrate our music and culture.

Off Campus Latinx Heritage Month Events
Brazilian Day Philadelphia: Celebrating its 10th anniversary, the annual Brazilian Day Philadelphia festival honoring Brazil’s arts, culture and beauty comes to Spruce Street Harbor Park for the first time. The free event (organized by Project Capoeira) is a high-energy experience designed to engage, educate and inspire attendees over an afternoon of live capoeira, samba and batucada performances, plus food, apparel and community (September 8, 2024).
Mexican Independence Day Festival: Moving to Independence Blue Cross RiverRink Summerfest for this year, the free Mexican Independence Day Festival is a fun-filled annual event featuring traditional Mexican artisan crafts, authentic music and dance, kids’ activities, food trucks and more. The day’s highlight is the Grito de Independencia ceremony from the Consul of Mexico in Philadelphia, commemorating the beginning of the Mexican Independence movement (September 15, 2024).
Off Campus Events that Celebrate Heritage and Identity
We Are The Seeds Philly Festival: The two-day We Are The Seeds Philly Festival celebrates Indigenous arts and culture through music, dance, storytelling, live interactive art painting, a fine art show, panel discussions and film screenings, plus Indigenous eats, apparel, craft vendors and more. Held at Cherry Street Pier, the event is curated by Native-led resident artists We Are the Seeds of CultureTrust. The event is free with a suggested $10 donation (September 21 to 22, 2024).
Through Sunday, October 27, 2024 (Saturdays & Sundays): Hailed as “one of the best food markets in the United States” by Food & Wine, the seasonal Southeast Asian Market brings the tastes of the region to FDR Park each weekend. The massive culinary treasure includes over 70 vendors offering traditional dishes, street food, native produce, plants, jewelry, apparel and more, set up in the (appropriately) southeast corner of the park. Bring a picnic blanket and enjoy your food fresh along with your take-home haul. Note: Some vendors are cash-only and there’s no ATM on site. Saturday, September 7, 2024 | 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. Join people with disabilities, allies, aides, family and friends along the Benjamin Franklin Parkway for the 12th annual Disability Pride Philadelphia Festival & Parade. The daylong party kicks off at City Hall with a parade up the Parkway beginning at 11 a.m., followed by the four-hour festival between 16th and 18th streets with food trucks, games, arts and craft vendors, special guests, giveaways, community and resource organizations, sensory-friendly spaces, and live music every hour on the hour from Ryan Gilfillian, Gooch & the Motion and Black Cat Habitat.
