Summer of Belonging Trip to Washington, D.C.
Institutional Diversity, Equity, and Access
Student Diversity Equity and Access
The Student Diversity Equity and Access (SDEA) team works with our Haverford campus communities to support students, promote campus-wide social justice education, and assist in animating Haverford’s commitment to becoming an antiracist college.
Under the Division of Institutional Diversity, Equity, and Access (IDEA), we work to invigorate the DEI initiatives at various levels of the institution. We will also continue the crucial work of THRIVE (Truth, Healing, Resiliency, Inclusion, and Equity), the campus-wide program Joyce Bylander, the former Interim Dean of the College, implemented and oversaw that focuses on racial healing and social justice at Haverford.
Overseen by Raquel Esteves-Joyce, assistant vice president for student diversity, equity, and access, the SDEA team includes:
- Center for Gender Resources and Sexuality Equity (GRASE)
- John P. Chesick Scholars Program for First-Generation/Low-Income Students
- Marilou Allen Office of Service and Community Collaboration
- Office of International Student Support
- Race and Ethnicity Education Office (REEO)
- Religious and Spiritual Life
- Quaker Affairs

Community Outreach Multicultural Liaisons
Community Outreach Multicultural Liaisons (COMLs) are a resource to help students initiate mediated dialogue and confrontation through a non-punitive, community-oriented framework. Confrontation is one of several possible paths forward outlined in the Honor Code to address harm or violations of community norms. We focus on advocating for students who are socially underrepresented due to, but not limited to, their racial/ethnic background, family background, immigration status, income, sexuality, gender, disability, or religion. COMLs can help facilitate dialogue when all parties are present or approach people on someone’s behalf if they are not in the position to participate in a confrontation themselves, and we can facilitate dialogues to address harm done by other students, faculty, or administration. We aim to relieve the burden and assist with the labor that comes along with advocating for yourself. We want to ensure that students who experience harm are listened to, feel heard, and given the support they need to engage in confrontation if desired. Please fill out the COMLs support and intake form to make an appointment with us. Don’t hesitate to reach out.
