Institutional Diversity, Equity, and Access
Our Work
We believe that cultivating a campus community(ies) where everyone is affirmed, uplifted, and are able to bring their whole selves in living, learning, teaching, and working together is a fundamental vision towards justice and liberation.
The purpose of our division—Institutional Diversity, Equity, and Access (IDEA)—is to affirm and support Haverford’s commitment to “the co-creation of a more inclusive, equitable, and just community for all of its members.” Our work towards equity and access is the shared and collective responsibility of staff, faculty, and students, and is supported and guided by all levels of leadership.
Our Mission
We are committed to cultivating a culture of connection and engagement that promotes equitable, inclusive, and accessible experiences of those who live, learn, work, and teach at Haverford College.
The Foundational Elements of Our Work
The development and success of a sustainable diversity, equity, inclusion, and access work depends on various foundational elements, which include:
- Building relationships and generating collective support to develop and sustain institution-wide initiatives.
- Gathering and assessing information; developing strategic plans and goals; and implementing policy and programmatic responses within divisions and across the campus.
- Facilitating open and transparent communication about our work through various platforms and engagement opportunities.
- Assessing and advocating for allocating resources through budget planning, process, and collective efforts.
- Evaluating progress and shifting our work to ensure accountability and commitment towards a sustainable campus environment that uplifts values of anti-racism, equity, and access.
Our Pillars
Our work is grounded in the following pillars of actions:
Policy
Policies, procedures, and processes that are assessed, developed, and updated to reflect the campus commitment to equity and access.
Advocacy
Reflective inquiry, accountable review, and structural support and resources to uplift divisional and institutional areas of growth.
Community Engagement
Regular and sustainable initiatives and programs that facilitate a community of inclusion and belonging.
Capacity Building
Develop and strengthen knowledge, tools, and resources to advance the work of equity and access.
Education
Holistic learning environment built upon a shared vocabulary, personal and professional development tools, and scaffolded resources through workshops and other programming rooted in equity, antiracist, and anti-oppressive frameworks.
