Student Life

Haverford students are afforded a large amount of autonomy and may use this opportunity to craft the kinds of experiences they wish to have—and they are given the responsibility, the resources and the respect necessary for that to happen.

In the Collection – Birds of America

In the Collection

John James Audubon’s The Birds of America: From Drawings Made in the United States and Their Territories is considered an artistic and scientific masterpiece. In addition to two first-edition sets produced between 1839 and 1844, the College possesses a pen-and-ink sketch of a Red-breasted Snipe with field notes in Audubon’s hand.

"In the Collection" highlights some of the rare and marvelous items that are part of Magill Library's Special Collections.

Academics

Haverford’s small size makes possible a highly personalized, hands-on educational experience. Professors work side-by-side with students to do high-level research while also developing analytical thinking and pushing the boundaries of each discipline.

Alternative Spring Break

Deviating from the typical let’s-soak-up-the-sun-type college spring break, many Haverford students instead lobbied Congress, built houses, went dancing, and participated in conferences as part of several alternative activities organized by students and other groups on campus.

Then and Now: The Sunken Lounge Now

Then and Now: The Sunken Lounge Now

It was a long winter, and the fireplace in the DC served as a welcome respite from the cold. Students often study, eat dinner, or enjoy special events in front of its warming glow whenever it is lit.

Missed yesterday’s photo? See the Sunken Lounge back “Then.”
