UPenn Engineering 4+1 Program

“I specifically remember choosing Haverford, in part, because of the 4+1 engineering program. It provides a fantastic opportunity for Haverford students to get two degrees from two great schools in only five years, while also opening up an avenue into the engineering world for those of us who want to pursue that career path.”  - Sam Yarosh '16

Haverford is the first liberal arts college in the world to enter into such an agreement with an Ivy League engineering program.

From Doctor to Artist: David Fraser '65

The former president of Swarthmore College and renowned epidemiologist known for leading teams that unraveled Legionnaires’ disease and toxic shock syndrome, Haverford biology major David Fraser '65 has approached his late-in-life art career with the same zeal and curiosity he employed as a scientist and physician.

Haverford Cheerleaders in the 1940's

History Lesson: Haverford Cheerleaders

Cheerleading—of the all-male variety—had a venerable history at the College. According to The Record of the Class of 1948, the cheerleading squad of that year had six men and the group’s captain was also charged with emceeing pep rallies, as well as the “fireworks-bonfire extravaganza before the Swarthmore game.”

In the late 1950s, it appears that the cheerleading corps went co-ed for a time, bringing in Bryn Mawr students to fill out the ranks. By the early 1960s, though, cheering had turned into an all-female affair.

Then & Now: Music

The Bi-Co orchestra will see its performance and rehearsal spaces upgraded thanks to the Lives That Speak campaign, which is investing in enhancements and additions to Roberts Hall, including a custom-built orchestra shell to improve acoustics in the auditorium, and a new rehearsal/recital hall facing the Duck Pond.
