Office of the Provost
The Office of the Provost offers a series of funding opportunities to explore Ethical Inquiry across the curriculum. Faculty are invited to think creatively and ambitiously in proposals for scholarship and research, innovative curricula and pedagogy, community engagement, and creative practice. With an emphasis on enriching the arts, humanities, social sciences and natural sciences in departmental and multidisciplinary contexts, these opportunities will also explore pathways between intellectual exploration, ethical inquiry, and postgraduate pathways.
Ethical Inquiry & Initiatives (EI2) Fund: Scholarship and Pedagogy
The Office of the Provost’s EI2 fund supports curriculum development, faculty scholarship, and collaborative initiatives that explore the study of ethics across disciplines; ethical approaches to research and pedagogy; collaborative ethical engagements; and global perspectives on ethical leadership, collaboration, and practice. Funds can be used for 1-2 year projects and can support both new areas of scholarship, pedagogy, and practice and revisions to current projects.
Applications for the following will be considered on a rolling deadline:
- Scholarship and Research Grants (up to $5000)
- Curricular Enhancement Grants (up to $2500)
- Workshops/Roundtables (up to $5000)
Proposals should include a 350-word summary of the project; a 100-word statement about its connection to the EI2 initiative; a one-page high-level budget; and a timeline for the work.
Ethical Inquiry Across Academic Centers, Libraries & Programs
The Office of the Provost welcomes applications from Centers, Libraries, and co-curricular programs to fund initiatives and programming around Ethical Inquiry. These activities could include symposia, workshops, exhibitions, research projects, community partnerships and more. Project ideas (one-page) and high-level budgets for 23-24 (from $1000-$7500) should be submitted by October 15 for late fall 2023 or spring 2024.
Thinking Forward: January, May, & Summer - Ethics in Action
The Office of the Provost is launching ‘Thinking Forward’ – a forum to workshop ideas and conversations around January, May, and Summer student/faculty collaborations, whether within formal courses or as fieldwork and experiential learning. We are interested in revised and new models for ethical inquiry and practice across the disciplines that would benefit from an off-semester component. We will hold open discussions for interested faculty with plans to launch pilots for new programming in 2024-25.
