“Health and the City”

Taught by Visiting Assistant Professor of Writing and Writing Fellow Eli Anders, this first-year writing seminar examines cities as sites of public health concern and intervention in modern history.

While the College’s commitment to low-income and first-generation students finds deepest expression in our financial aid policy, there are often needs that are felt in the regular flow of a student’s life which fall outside the parameters of overall financial aid packages. Our LIFTFAR program aims to help fill these gaps.

Fords enjoy myriad traditional events such as the Collection speaker series; Pinwheel Day; the annual weekend throwdown at the end of the year called Haverfest; and, most importantly, Fall and Spring Plenary.

Our campus has 200 acres of award-winning architecture and landscaping; more than 50 academic, athletic, and residential buildings; and a nationally recognized arboretum with 400 species of trees and shrubs, a 3.5-acre duck pond, gardens, and wooded areas.

Haverford’s Visual Culture, Arts, and Media (VCAM) facility houses the College’s Interdisciplinary Minor in Visual Studies, the Haverford Innovations Program, and the John B. Hurford ’60 Center for the Arts and Humanities, and its new Philadelphia Area Creative Collaboratives initiative.

Right after his junior year, Jeremy Zoll ’12 landed a summer internship in the front office of a major league baseball team, and it’s been a meteoric rise ever since. Today he’s director of minor league operations for the Minnesota Twins.

“Psychology Practicum Seminar”

Taught by Assistant Professor of Psychology Shu-wen Wang, this new course offers students the opportunity to gain intensive first-hand experience working with people in a psychological services or social services setting to provide a supervised platform on which to apply what they have learned in their psychology coursework to helping others in a hands-on way.

Haverford hosts guest speakers through programs such as Distinguished Visitors, the Young Academic Alumni Lecture Series, and the Mark and Lillian Shapiro Speaking Initiative. These lectures, classroom visits, and workshops enhance and supplement the core curriculum.

There will be a student talk, hands-on activities, and telescope observing with our 12-inch and 16-inch telescopes. Student volunteers will be present to give tours and answer astronomy-related questions. This event takes place weather permitting. Details »
