Haverfarm

The Haverfarm is a year-round farming and educational space that introduces sustainable food and agriculture into the lives of Haverford students, faculty, staff, and community members.

Tommy Joshua, founder of the North Philly Peace Park, speaks at the inaugural Student Farmer Symposium. Organized by the Haverfarm team, the symposium was an opportunity for students, farmers, and educators from the Philadelphia area to discuss permaculture, farming, eco-activism, and more. The Campus

Our campus has 200 acres of award-winning architecture and landscaping; more than 50 academic, athletic, and residential buildings; and a nationally recognized arboretum with 400 species of trees and shrubs, a 3.5-acre duck pond, gardens, and wooded areas.

Following the College's first-ever comprehensive tree assessment, a massive renewal project aimed at preserving Haverford's beloved natural resources for generations to come—while keeping the community safe—is taking shape. Photo: Rae Yuan '19.

Senior Thesis - Rory Kennison ’18

Every Haverford major includes a capstone project. Rory Kennison ’18 wrote a two-act play for the thesis of his independent theater major, and, with the help of seven student actors, presented his production as a poignant staged reading.

Kennison's play, Ugly, explores the lives of young people grappling with their identities. Photo: Lev Greenstein ’20.

“Computer Security: Attacks and Defenses”

Taught by Visiting Assistant Professor of Computer Science Kristopher Micinski, this course offers a broad introduction to the field of computer security from two concurrent perspectives: attacks on systems and defenses against those attacks.

Our Cool Classes blog series highlights interesting, unusual, and unique courses that enrich the Haverford College experience.

Renovating the Library

The successfully completed Lives That Speak campaign identified the Library as a rich opportunity to create a much-needed interactive, inviting, architecturally beautiful structure that advances and facilitates the innovative programming now offered. New features of what will be called the Lutnick Library include technologically robust spaces, active teaching and learning spaces, a Digital Scholarship Commons, and a cafe.

Renovation began in mid-February, but the library will retain many of Magill's beloved historic spaces including the Philips Wing and its loft, the current reference and reading room, the Rufus Jones Room, the Carvill Arch and more. This rendering shows the new northwest entrance across from Chase Hall.

Community Housing

For students looking to forge close connections around shared interests, Haverford offers specialinterest housing choices, such as La Casa Hispánica (for students actively engaged in organizing programs concerned with the cultures and civilizations of the Spanish-speaking world); Cadbury House (for those seeking quiet-study and alcohol- and drug-free living); and Nerd House (for gaming, tech, fantasy, anime, and science aficionados).
