What
On-call CAPS crisis counselors are available to talk to matriculated Haverford students via telephone in instances of mental health crises outside of CAPS business hours (Monday—Friday, 9:00 a.m.—5:00 p.m. and weekends, Friday afternoon until Monday morning).
Why
A mental health crisis is any situation where someone is at risk of hurting themselves or others, and/or feels unable to care for themselves or unable to function. On-call CAPS crisis counselors are available in these instances to talk with students about what they are experiencing.
How
- If you are experiencing a psychological crisis situation, call Haverford Safety and Security (610-896-1111) and ask to speak to the on-call CAPS crisis counselor.
- Campus safety will ask you to provide your name, a phone number you can be called back on, and your physical location. They should not ask for other information, though you can provide any information you think they/we might find helpful.
- Campus safety will then reach out to the on-call CAPS crisis counselor.
- The on-call CAPS crisis counselors reach out to you directly through the phone number you provided.

On-call CAPS crisis counselors are current members of CAPS staff who rotate through taking on-call responsibilities.
