High Rocks
High Rocks is an award-winning leadership development program that serves to educate, empower, and inspire teenage girls located in the Appalachian Mountains, giving them the confidence to lead active lives and work towards the long-term betterment of their communities. Experiences here are rigorous emotionally, physically, and intellectually, and students leave High Rocks with ample knowledge about West Virginia, the challenges facing young women in these communities, and ideas around ethical social change and effective citizenship. Interns will become part of a growing network of women from all over the country.
High Rocks partners with Haverford for several service learning programs. Students work as mentors and role models for middle and high school girls participating in an award-winning academic enrichment and leadership program located in the Appalachian Mountains. Interns support staff through the summer programs (camps and trips), work as mentors with individual teens, and create an original curriculum of reading, reflection and discussion designed to enrich their teaching work.
