A message from the president, interim dean of the College, and interim provost.
As many of you know, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has issued a new set of rulesregarding visa-holding students pursuing degree programs at U.S. colleges and universities during fall semester 2020. Drafted without invitation for comment, this directive comes as we are formulating plans for how the semester will unfold here at Haverford, and as you are deciding how to proceed in light of the pandemic and its effects.
We want you to know that we have been engaging with this unwelcome news from the moment we received it. With help from legal advisors who represent the College, peer institutions, and our advocates in Washington, D.C. who represent the interests of schools like Haverford, we are committed to charting a path forward that will minimize disruption, risk, and fear for our international students and all of us. With our plans for hybrid course delivery in the fall, the College is well positioned to adapt to many kinds of changing circumstances, including these. We will keep you apprised of our progress as we endeavor to do all we can to support our international students.
