Anatomy of an Athlete

History and chemistry double-major Max Findley '15, the former co-captain of Haverford’s fencing team, took some time to talk to Haverford magazine about the venerable sport of fencing and why it has held him in thrall since elementary school.

Music at Haverford

The Department of Music at Haverford offers a creative approach to music theory, a curriculum in music history that deals with music in the social context and embraces world music and jazz, while our applied music program and ensembles provide students with opportunities for performances and tours.

Ingrid Arauco’s composition students workshopped their assignments with professional musicians including Network for New Music and percussionist Phil O’Banion.

What They Learned: Erin Berlew ’15

Working in the lab of Assistant Professor Lou Charkoudian '03, the chemistry major helped create a type II polyketide catalog, which identified 78 polyketides of known producing sequence and structure and indexed key pieces of information about each of these molecules.

"What They Learned" is a blog series exploring the thesis work of recent graduates.

The Campus

Established nearly 80 years ago by the Campus Club, the 2.2-mile Nature Trail encircling Haverford College’s campus provides a shady path for dog walkers, joggers and runners.

Short sections of Haverford's Nature Trail are being resurfaced for enhanced safety. The material is made from recycled truck tires, and looks similar to wood chips. Photo: Patrick Montero.

The Ticha Project

Assistant Professor of Linguistics Brook Danielle Lillehaugen recently returned to campus from an exciting treasure hunt for Zapotec texts during a three-week research trip to Oaxaca, Mexico. Lillehaugen was on the lookout for manuscripts to add to the growing collection in the Ticha Project—a digital publication of Colonial Zapotec resources.
