Committee on Student Standing and Programs
The Committee consists of: three student members; one or two deans, as determined by the Dean of the College; the Registrar or a designate; and two faculty members.
The chair (or co-chairs) of the committee will be appointed by the Dean of the College from among the staff members of the committee. The faculty members are appointed by Academic Council. When relevant, the Committee consults with the student’s advising dean, their faculty advisor, members of the Athletic Department, the Admissions Office, and other mentors in supportive roles in discussions on the standing of individual students.
The Committee on Student Standing and Programs (CSSP) reviews individual students’ petitions for exceptions to academic regulations. In this function, it supports students who are navigating academic challenges, as well as those requesting to waive requirements and to make alterations to individual programs in line with the College’s Academic Flexibility Program as described in the current College Catalog. The Committee has the responsibility for acting on all student petitions for exceptions to the Academic Regulations.
CSSP fosters ongoing, proactive communication channels and support structures in order to support and partner with students. As part of this process, CSSP requests that faculty members share notes of concern to the deans of those students in their courses who are experiencing academic difficulty. The Committee reviews these faculty reports as needed but typically before and after midterms, and sends letters to some students apprising them of the concerns. Strategies, consultations, and resources are tailored to the individual student and are typically identified through a co-created Partnership and Engagement Plan.
