Responding to Hurricanes Florence and Michael
Details
A note from President Benston regarding Hurricanes Florence and Michael.
Last year, members of the Haverford community responded generously in offering resources to the victims of shattering natural disasters in the southern United States, Mexico, and the Caribbean. Once again, our neighbors, friends, and family members are facing serious challenges as a result of devastating hurricanes, this time Hurricanes Florence and Michael. I invite you to contribute to the following agencies that are helping folks seeking basic services and early recovery in the many communities struggling in the wake of Florence and Michael::
All Hands and Hearts Smart Response
Foundation for the Carolinas Hurricane Florence Response Fund
North Carolina Community Foundation
United Way Disaster Recovery Funds
Likewise, we would do well to remember that communities that were leveled last year by such events continue to struggle for recovery (for example, recent comprehensive reports from Puerto Rico detail significant fundamental challenges faced by its citizens a year after Hurricane Maria laid waste to much of the island). The organizations noted in this space last year remain active on the ground helping these communities meet essential needs as they labor for longer-term restoration.
