Highlights from the 2022-2023 Fellowship Application Cycle

As the 2022-2023 fellowship application cycle comes to a close, CCPA would like to share some highlights from this past year.
Rhea Chandran '23 was awarded a Fulbright grant to conduct sociohistorical research on the rehabilitation and reintegration of women exiting sex work in India.
Rachael Garnick '17 will be serving as a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant for elementary school students in the Canary Islands of Spain.
Ellie Keating '23 will be serving as a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant for high schools students in Madrid, Spain.
Bayan Mostaghim ‘23 was awarded a Fulbright grant to conduct nanobiotechnology research at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne in Switzerland.

Top-Producing Institution
Haverford was once again named a Fulbright Top Producing Institution for the seventh time in the past eight years. Our 4 Fulbright recipients from the 2021-2022 application cycle are currently on their grants in the United Kingdom, Luxembourg, Morocco, and Colombia.
Hunter Logan ’23 was selected as a Watson Fellow and will spend a year traveling and pursuing an independent original project, “Family Fables,” through which he will explore the impact of autobiographical stories and family histories on communities and cultures.
Seamus Flannery ‘23 was named one of only 20 finalists for the Mitchell Scholarship, a graduate fellowship for study in Ireland/Northern Ireland. He is believed to be the first finalist from Haverford since our last winner in 2005.
Rafael Montero ‘24 was selected as a Truman Scholar – Haverford’s first recipient since 2002. As a Truman Scholar, Rafael will receive funding for graduate studies and opportunities for leadership and professional development in preparation for a career in public service.
Lydia Guertin ‘24 and Levi Raskin ‘24 were selected as Goldwater Scholars in recognition of their talent and promise as researchers in astrophysics and paleoanthropology, respectively. This is the first time since 2007 that two Haverford students have received the award in one year.
Cathy Zhu ‘23 was selected as a Coro Fellow and will spend a year in St. Louis immersed in the world of public affairs and public service through placements in diverse industry sectors and intensive professional development and networking opportunities.
Yuriko Zhang ‘25 was selected to receive a Critical Languages Scholarship to study Japanese in Okayama, Japan this summer.
Gabriel Morillo ‘24 was selected as Haverford’s Center for the Study of the Presidency and Congress (CSPC) Presidential Fellow and will spend the next academic year learning about the U.S. government through research, leadership, and professional development activities.
Karla Sofia Garcia ‘21 was selected to receive the Clementine Cope Fellowship, awarded to Haverford graduates pursuing advanced degrees in any discipline. Karla will be pursuing a Master’s in Climate and Society at Columbia University In addition, Ngoc “June” Hoang ‘21 and Tomás Aramburu ‘19 each received a Cope Prize as an honorable mention.
Laurel Benjamin ’21, Gabriel Braun ’19, James Dougherty ’21, Jan Estrada Pabon ’21, Grayson Hamrick ’21, Mallory Kastner ’21, Christina McBride ’23, and Sophia Nelson ’20 were selected as NSF Graduate Research Fellows. In addition, Oscar Garrett ‘23 and Franklin Kostas ‘18 were named honorable mentions.
