Web Accessibility
Haverford College strives to create an online environment that reflects our institutional commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and access.
The College recognizes that websites and web-based digital content are integral to the academic, administrative, and community building work of the College. Our goal is to provide a website and web-based digital materials that are accessible to the widest possible audience, regardless of technology or ability.
Our guiding principles:
- reduce barriers and provide equal access to digital content on the College's website;
- craft content in accordance with the Web Accessibility Policy, following the best practices and standards as defined by Section 508 of the U.S. Rehabilitation Act and Level AA of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1.
- regularly audit, test, and improve the user experience for our visitors;
- embrace and advocate for the principles of accessible and inclusive design;
- reinforce best practices and web standards with content contributors such as faculty, staff, and students.
Known Issues
- In some instances, content contributors may have neglected to use alternative text. We’re correcting these as we encounter them and reinforcing best practices with the contributor.
- You may encounter legacy colors with poor contrast. Our current, approved styles meet Level AA of WCAG 2.1.
- Legacy content, especially sites created outside of College Communications, may not be in compliance with WCAG. While we’re happy to assist, our team may not have access to these projects or permission to edit the content in question.
