Biography:
Our students are hardworking, persistent, and brilliant but, admittedly, overwhelmed.
So, my primary goal is to help students recognize they are the center of their academic success team at college and that the rest of their team is waiting to be chosen. From a systems perspective, I leverage the institutional credibility of my office to develop learning environments that are conducive to student learning.
Related to academic success, I explore the following questions: how can we empower students to maximize effective use of all the tools available at college? What facts, concepts, skills, or procedures need to be made explicit and applied through guided, and faded, practice over time? What role can genuine community play in saving our students time? I believe students play a key role in this work, as do faculty and staff.
As a STEM Learning Specialist, tutor, and youth leader, I am consistently reminded that my career has blossomed because of the people who treated me with kindness throughout my life. A number of my teachers, professors, staff mentors, and peers helped me discover the knowledge, resources, and opportunities I needed to develop my current skill set and support my learning and growth as a professional in Higher Education. I hope every student gets to experience this same kindness and that I get to show kindness to those I meet as well.
