biography
troizel is black + alive and that means more than these words can express.
a thinker + doer, she/troizel/they is concerned primarily with how we understand art + aesthetics as interventions into how we can organize life and living. her/their dissertation, black performance studies: queer/trans experiments, takes up the performance and theoretical practices of Black queer and trans artists that experiment with the body, gender, genre, race, fact, fiction to detail models for us to follow.
troizel/she/they served as a Teaching Artist fellow at New Museum of Contemporary Art in New York City, the inaugural Museum Institute Scholar at Studio Museum in Harlem, an alum of the Hemispheric Institute for Performance & Politics’ New York Emerging Performers Program (EMERGENYC), and former managing editor of Women & Performance: a journal of feminist theory. her/their art has appeared in places like The Kitchen, Artists Space, Swiss Institute, All St Gallery, Amos Eno Gallery, and Rojas + Rubensteen Projects; her/their writings have been in Studio Magazine, loose cornrows, and Black Agenda Report.
