Dublin is the capital city and major cultural center of Ireland. It is the origin of many prominent artists and writers such as James Joyce, Oscar Wilde, Samuel Beckett, Bram Stoker, and Roddy Doyle. Because it is the capital, one can find many important museums and galleries to visit there, including the National Print Museum of Ireland, the Irish Museum of Modern Art, the National Gallery of Ireland, the Hugh Lane Municipal Gallery, the Chester Beatty Library, and three centers of the National Museum of Ireland

  • Visa:

    Required after arrival in Ireland. Students must register with the Garda Siochana (Police) in the area in which they reside within three months of arrival in Ireland. There is a €300 fee for registering.

    Non-US citizens should consult with IFSA and the Office of International Student Support before applying to the program.

  • Fees: Students pay Haverford tuition to Haverford College. Haverford will then be responsible for submitting tuition payments to the program. Students pay room and board fees directly to IFSA.
Requirements

This program has a firm 3.0 GPA requirement. Some departments may have a higher than minimum GPA requirement.

Direct Enrollment

University College Dublin (UCD) is Ireland’s largest university. Known for its top-ranking business school, notable school of humanities, and leadership in science and technology innovation, there is something for everyone at UCD. Join more than 33,000 students pursuing a wide range of academic studies at one of Ireland’s most research-intensive institutions.

Academic Credit

As the BA course in UCD takes three years, Junior Year Abroad students follow courses at the second or third-year level. At this level, students normally receive a minimum of 25-30 ECTS per semester and 60 credits for a full academic year’s work, usually equally divided between two major subjects. Transfer credit will only be granted for courses in which students receive a grade of a C (2.0) or above.

The IR10050 Irish for Beginners course will fulfill Haverford’s language requirement.

Curriculum

The UCD Center for Study Abroad will advise students and process course enrollment. Opportunities to study Irish language. Students can join sports clubs and social groups.

Housing/Meal Plans

Residence Hall – You will live in a dedicated student residence at UCD with your own bedroom in either a four-or six-bedroom unit. Each accommodation has a shared kitchen, living room, either private or shared bathrooms, WiFi, and a common laundry facility. 

Haverford students may not opt for housing not arranged by the program.
