The Office of Multicultural Affairs and Alliance of Latin American Students (ALAS) is pleased to present Latinx Heritage Month (also referred to as National Hispanic Heritage Month or Latine Heritage Month), from September 15 through October 15.
Latinx Heritage Month highlights and celebrates the history and contributions of Latin Americans with ties to the Caribbean, the Americas (Central and South), and Mexico. More information.

Maria Reyes Pacheco
Hey y’all! I’m Maria Reyes Pacheco (she/her). My family and I are from La Paz, Bolivia, but I immigrated to Maryland when I was four. I am a history major, sociology minor, and Latinx studies concentrator. I am so grateful for the Latinx community here at Haverford and I enjoyed organizing the programming for this month. I’m also part of the Instagram takeover (#LHMatHaverford), and I will be sharing about Latinx clubs in the Bi-Co, and the history of Latinx students here at Haverford. Hope to see y'all at the events!
Rubi Rivas
Hey everyone! My name is Rubi Rivas (she/her). I am a junior majoring in biology. I am on the board of the Association of Latin American Students (ALAS). I’m also an intern at the Center for Gender Resources and Sexual Education (GRASE) and the Center for Career and Professional Advising (CCPA). I am also a First-Generation, Low-Income Student Leader. In my free time, I love to be involved in theater, find fun workouts, and read.
Jorge Paz Reyes
Hello everyone! I’m Jorge Paz Reyes (he/him), and I’m a sophomore. I’m originally from Honduras, but I currently live in Queens, New York City. I’m interested in political science and biology, as well as Latin American Studies. This Latinx Heritage Month, I will be helping organize the party as well as sharing with you all what’s like to be a Latin American student at Haverford. Gabby Garza
Hi y’all! I’m Gabriella (she/her), and I am a sophomore. My family and I immigrated from Tamaulipas, Mexico when I was young and now live in the Rio Grande Valley in Texas. I am a first-generation college student in my family! I also am passionate about the medical field and STEM:) This Latinx Heritage Month I will be posting playlists from Latinx artists every week! I might not know much about music, but I hope you can find a song that you might add to your personal playlists!
Kevin Chabriel
My name is Kevin Octavio Chabriel Medina, I’m a First-Gen Low-Income student and a Questbridge Match Scholar here at Haverford College. I’m from Vega Baja, Puerto Rico, and my biggest motivation is the liberation of Puerto Rico. I will be a double major in English and anthropology with a concentration in Latinx studies. Lastly, I focus my studies on the importance of safe spaces and how safe spaces are created within marginalized communities. I’m also the student facilitator for the speaker event.

Hey! I’m Mónica Mena Cordero, but you can just call me Mo (she/they)! I’m from San Juan, Puerto Rico, but I also lived a few years in Miami! I’m a sophomore interested in econ, Latin American studies, and Spanish! Currently, I am a board member of ALAS and I am helping with the speaker, Rebeca Hey-Colón! Hey y’all, I’m Anthony Carrillo (he/him). I’m a junior chem major and physics/enviro double minor. My mom is from Jalisco, Mexico, and my dad is from Durango, Mexico, but I was born in Los Angeles, CA. I’m helping organize the speaker event and movie night for this month. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone!
Maria Reyes Torres
Hey everyone! My name is Maria Reyes Torres (she/her). I’m a junior environmental studies major and a growth and structure of cities Mmnor. I grew up in the Bronx, New York, and I currently live in North Jersey, also my family is from the Dominican Republic. On campus, I am a board member of ALAS and the Committee of Environmental Responsibility (CER). For Latinx Heritage Month, I have been creating graphics and posters to publicize the different events!
Andrew Beltran
Yo, I’m Andrew Beltran. I’m a current junior biology major with a Spanish minor. My hometown is Tucson, Arizona. I’m a child of immigrants, with both parents hailing from Sinaloa, Mexico. Personally, I’m interested in learning about the health disparities that the Latine community faces and how to remedy them. On-campus, I’m a board member of ALAS and a resident of the new Latinx Center! I hope you all turn out for our events! :D<
