Kings County Hospital Center is located in Brooklyn, NY as part of an integrated health system with NYC Health + Hospitals. Ideal candidates will have taken health studies and/or educational studies classes and have experience in tutoring or mentoring programs. The selected fellow or fellows will work directly under Dr. David Stevens '87 to facilitate a program which will provide paid learning experience for local high school interns.
Summer 2019 Internship Description
The CPGC fellow will act as the day-to-day coordinator of the High School Internship program with responsibilities to include:
- Arranging workshops by securing spaces and coordinating with faculty, site-visit hosts, and other speakers
- Supervising and coaching 3-4 high school interns by ensuring their attendance and professional behavior, assisting with completion of their assignments, and co-leading workshops
- Completing summative evaluation of the high school interns
- Assisting in the design of evaluation questionnaires
- Data entry and analysis (basic statistical tests)
- Liaising with the Project Director
- Completing weekly assignments leading up to a population health improvement project: select a health concern / intervention that disproportionately affects the community served; research the existing literature concerning the intervention’s effectiveness and barriers; study the population using qualitative and quantitative methods to identify pertinent barriers that can be addressed; test an intervention targeting key barrier(s); and present the overall results

CPGC’s Fellowships for Global Citizenship Program: This summer internship is part of a larger fellowship that offers a comprehensive preparatory and re-entry program along with funding and support during your summer engagement with Kings County Hospital Center. Prior to the summer internship, CPGC staff, faculty and community partners will help students build on their passions and capacities for ethical engagement and social change action. Fellows continue their journey through a re-entry course upon returning to campus in the fall. More specific information about these crucial elements of the Fellowship program can be found on the CPGC website.
Pre-internship Programming: The 2019 CPGC Fellow cohort will meet on or near campus for a half-day retreat on April 7, 2019, and engage in other preparatory activities during the Spring semester that will be relevant to their fellowships.
Stipend: The CPGC funds an 8-week internship that includes travel, lodging, local transportation, food, and the summer earnings expectation for students who receive financial aid.
