Newman Civic Fellowship Award -- Nominations Needed!
Details
The Haverford community is invited to nominate potential candidates for next year's Newman Civic Fellowship Award, which recognizes and supports community-committed students who are change makers and impactful problem solvers within campus, local, and national communities.
A message from Michael Elias, Dean of Student Engagement and Leadership Initiatives:
On behalf of the Civic Engagement and Social Responsibility Council (CESR) we would like to announce the nomination process for the Newman Civic Fellowship. Through partnership between Haverford College and Campus Compact, the fellowship recognizes and supports community-committed students who are change makers and impactful problem solvers within campus, local, and national communities. Students who are awarded the fellowship attend national conferences and are inducted into a network of civically focused student leaders. Maurice Rippel ‘19 was the recipient of the award during the 2017-2018 school year.
This year, in order to identify Haverford’s next Newman Civic Fellow, we will be asking the community to nominate potential candidates for the award. The nomination process is open to students who have at least one year of their education remaining (2019-2020 academic year) and who have and continue to:
-
Engage in collaborative action with others from campus or from surrounding communities to create long-term societal change.
-
Take action in addressing issues of inequality and political polarization.
-
Demonstrate the motivation and potential for effective long-term civic engagement.
More details regarding the nomination process can be found here: Nomination Criteria.
CESR is asking the Haverford community to put forth nominations for the fellowship by Monday, January 21, 2019 [Submit a Nomination Here]. Once the deadline has been reached, CESR will convene to narrow the applicant pool and make recommendations to President Benston, who will be responsible for selecting the 2019-2020 Newman Civic Fellow.
We thank you for the support and thoughtful nominations. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions you may have regarding the award and/or process.
