Center for Hunger-Free Communities
The Center for Hunger-Free Communities envisions a world where children born today will inherit a nation free from hunger; a nation where all members of the community partner to keep families economically secure; and a nation where all people have an equal voice in policies that affect their lives.
The Center's work encompasses four key projects: 1) Witnesses to Hunger that facilitates participation of mothers and caregivers of children who know poverty first-hand in the national dialogue on hunger, 2) the Philadelphia-site of nationally renowned research endeavor, Children’s HealthWatch, that links policy to child well-being and development, 3) the Building Wealth and Health Network a peer-oriented, asset-building model that helps women break the cycle of poverty, and 4) the EAT (Everyone At the Table) Cafe, a pay-what-you-can community cafe in West Philadelphia.
Haverford staff and students visited the Center for Hunger-Free Communities as part of the Community Engagement Day held on March 18, 2016.
Many Haverford House Fellows have spent their fellowship working at the Center for Hunger-Free Communities.
