Q&A with Erin Haughee, Research Coordinator in the Department of Psychology
What do you do in the KINSC?
I am the Research Coordinator in the Department of Psychology here in the KINSC. In this role, I provide support for and management of the exciting research in the Department, which includes both interfacing with faculty regarding their own research programs as well as working with students on senior thesis projects and laboratory course research. I also serve as the Animal Facilities Manager, supervising the neuroscience animal colony in our Department, assisting with research, coordinating inspections, and supervising our wonderful vivarium student employees.
How long have you worked at Haverford?
This is my second month at Haverford. (I still feel the urge to pinch myself to check if I am dreaming).
What did you do before you came to Haverford?
Before Haverford, I worked at The College of New Jersey, providing program coordination and assistance for the Departments of Psychology, Political Science, and International Studies. I have also worked a variety of management positions as well as in biotechnology research and development. Additionally, I volunteered as an advocate for victims of power-based personal violence. I presented on relevant topics and served as a Title IX advocate for students moving through that process, volunteer work which I hope I can continue in a new capacity for the local community.
What would you say is the best part of your job?
It is hard to choose! Working in this position provides exposure to the diverse set of subfields represented in the Department, such as neuroscience as well as cognitive, cultural, developmental, personality, and social psychology. The egalitarian model embodied by Haverford enables me to provide support and to participate in ways that are incredibly enriching, both in the lab and sometimes in the classroom. Research is a passion of mine, and having this opportunity to assist with the research projects in this uniquely Haverford way is profoundly rewarding.
Where's your favorite place in the KINSC?
The garden outside of Sharpless is one of my favorite spots. The juxtaposition of the modern, sleek interior against the wild beauty of nature makes stepping outside feel exciting.
Tell us something about yourself we probably don't know.
Singing is one of my favorite things. I've performed in 11 different countries. I recently joined the Haverford-Bryn Mawr Chorale and I am tremendously excited to sing with them.
