Q&A with Carol Howe, Science Librarian
What do you do in the KINSC?
I feel privileged to be the science librarian here at Haverford College. My main function is to support the students and faculty in the sciences. That means I help individuals with information research projects and provide group library instruction. I also purchase items for the library collection, supervise student workers, and help maintain the science and astronomy library facilities. You can usually find me in my office in the science library.
How long have you worked at Haverford?
I’ve been at Haverford College for four years.
What would you say is the best part of your job?
The best part of my job is the people I work with—from the library patrons, to the library staff, to my other colleagues on and off campus. Second to the people, the best part of my job is the variety. I learn something new every day, and I’ve never had a day in which I was bored.
What did you do before you came to Haverford?
Before coming to Haverford College, I was a librarian at Immaculata University for ten years. Prior to that I did computer programming and data management in the pharmaceutical industry, also for about ten years.
Where's your favorite place in the KINSC?
My favorite place in the KINSC is my office. It’s bright and cheery, and I love seeing the comings and goings of the library.
Tell us something about you we probably don't know.
Something you may not know about me is that I’m a dog person—which is not to say I don’t also love the many cats I’ve had over a lifetime. Gilligan (siblings: Ginger & Skipper) is a seven-year-old rescue. My one-hour morning walk with him is the most peaceful hour of my day!
