Client Services Student Assistant
The Client Services Student Assistant (CSSA) works closely with the full time staff of the Client Services area.
Primary duties of the CSSA include:
- Assisting clients with computing related questions/problems at the IT Service Desk
- Assisting with imaging of computers
- Delivering computers to faculty/staff offices
- Assisting with management of public computing spaces (labs, kiosks)
- Assist with asset tracking and inventory management
- Work on other projects as assigned

Qualifications: Must have a strong inclination to learn about computers, good communication skills, have initiative, be able to work independently, follow directions, be punctual, and able to lift 40 lbs.
This job is for the academic school year. Ideally, we'll hire some SAs who can begin paid training with us in the final weeks of the spring semester. A mandatory training session is held during the week prior to the start of the semester, beginning the week prior to the start of classes. SAs are required to attend this training and we will provide housing and meals (we are accommodating of those who are also involved in customs or athletics).
Core Technologies Student Assistant: All Positions are all currently filled.
These students will work with our the IITS Core Technologies staff performing various tasks to set up and maintain the campus network infrastructure. Tasks range from light office work (answering phones and entering or updating records in our database) to manual labor (must be able and willing to push/pull/lift 50 lbs., sometimes in dusty wiring closets).
Work may extend to creating and/or updating web pages, as well as helping us test new services as we prepare them for campus deployment. A willingness to learn, attention to detail and the ability to work independently is a must. Basic computer skills required.
Special skills in demand :
- Visio, or comparable experience using software like Photoshop or CAD.
- Unix, experience with command line interface and scripting with perl/python.
If you have any of the above, be sure to inform us on the employment application. This job is for the academic school year.
Audio Visual Assistant
The Audio Visual Services department’s student AV technicians support the College’s academic and administrative events including delivering, setting up, and operating computer projectors and sound systems, videotaping classes and lectures, and providing general technical support for events.
This job is for the academic school year and your hours will vary each week. There are no set job hours. Your schedule is flexible and will change each week depending on our event schedule and your availability. The majority of the jobs are in the afternoon at 4:15 p.m., evenings, and on the weekend. The AV office is closed at night and on the weekend, so most evening and weekend events are the responsibility of our student workers.
Each week we compile a schedule of the following week’s events that require Audio Visual (AV) equipment or support and email it to all of our student workers. You reply by selecting all the events you are available to work. We then send you your schedule for the next week, trying to split up the events equally among our student assistants. Our students work an average of 3 to 8 hours per week.
Skills/Experience needed:
- Being dependable, responsible, punctual, and professional are critical to this job. You must:
- Remember that you are scheduled to work.
- Be there on time (and in plenty of time to set up any equipment that is required.)
- Stay for the entire event (unless specifically instructed that it is OK to leave.)
- Find a substitute if you realize that you are going to be late (or will miss an event entirely.)
- Be willing to occasionally fill-in at the last minute: AV reservations are sometimes made at the last minute and we need to find coverage with very little lead time.
- Communication is critical to your success in this job. You must check your texts, email and voicemail frequently and reply ASAP to all our communications.
- During the week we may receive last minute requests that are not on the weekly schedule and that have to be staffed. We’ll call or send an email seeking coverage for these events and these communications demand a timely response.
- Any sort of problem or technical difficulty you experience while working for AV should be communicated to us immediately.
Experience is not required. We will train you. Any experience you have with projectors, computers, video cameras, sound reinforcement, and audio components will be an advantage. You will be paid for any training time.
Physical requirements: You must be able to climb stairs and lift and/or move relatively heavy equipment including audio speakers, portable projection screens, etc.
You should live on Haverford’s campus. For this job it would not be practical to live off-campus (or to be a Bryn Mawr student.)
Availability: Experience tells us that students who are involved in organized athletics are not good candidates for an AV job. The majority of AV jobs are on weekday afternoons and anyone involved in organized athletics is most likely at practice or a game during this time.
