Speculative Environmental Design

This experiential course introduces students to a range of design thinking and practices in the context of the planetary ecological crisis. Students will meet with local entrepreneurs, community activists and artists working at the nexus of entrepreneurship and complex socio-environmental challenges. Building on readings and experiences students will then develop their own projects to be presented at the end of the semester.

This class is currently offered in Fall 2024 for 6 weeks in the 1st quarter. It is a .5 credit class.
This course introduces the history, process and uses of human centered design. HCD is a methodology that emerges from several disciplines: cognitive psychology, art & design, and user design. It is a creative approach to problem-solving and the method used by many companies and organizations to design products and services that relate directly to the people they serve. Students will both learn the process and create their own projects.
