About the Position
The Assistant Director is an integral member of the Donor Relations and Stewardship team, communicating the impact of philanthropic support to the College’s donors and inspiring the joy of philanthropy toward Haverford. Reporting to the Director of Donor Relations and Stewardship and working closely with the Associate Director of Donor Relations and Stewardship, the Assistant Director coordinates key initiatives as part of a strategic and comprehensive program tailored to various constituencies including alumni; friends; students’ families; and leadership, loyal, and legacy donors.
Primary Responsibilities
- Create and manage key stewardship communications, including acknowledgments for honor/memorial gifts, general email acknowledgements, electronic birthday cards, first-time donor postcards, giving society communications, annual “Giving Thanks” card, holiday greetings, Annual Giving impact report emails, and other communications as they arise
- Contribute to developing compelling and thoughtful donor relations and stewardship initiatives and an annual stewardship plan, including evaluating and improving existing programming and processes, and researching and proposing ideas to thank donors, recognize them, demonstrate the impact of their support, and offer opportunities to deepen their engagement with the College
- Support the implementation of the department’s annual stewardship plan
- Run reports, queries, and exports with attention to detail to manage donor relations and stewardship communications and event registrations
- Maintain records in Raiser’s Edge database as related to donor relations and stewardship actions, reporting, events, and fund creation and documentation
- Assist the Donor Relations and Stewardship team with developing, organizing, and staffing stewardship events
- Oversee student workers on the Donor Relations and Stewardship team
- Other duties as needed to meet the goals for Institutional Advancement
Line of Report: The Assistant Director of Donor Relations and Stewardship reports to the Director of Donor Relations and Stewardship, and has no direct reports.
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate’s degree
- 1 year in stewardship, fundraising, or transferrable professional experience
Professional Competencies
- Understanding of the principles of donor-centered fundraising, donor relations, and stewardship
- Customer service orientation and an eagerness to meet donor needs and expectations
- Ability to engage with people with tact, discretion, and diplomacy
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Effective writing, editing, and communication skills
- Attention to detail and high level of organizational skills
- Computer literacy, including familiarity with Microsoft Office, Google suite, and Raiser’s Edge or other fundraising database/CRM

- Evening and weekend work at occasional campus events with students, alumni, and families. Offsite event support may also be needed for alumni events
