Physics at Haverford

Haverford’s Physics major and minor bring together students and faculty interested in investigating the physical principles that animate the natural world. Our rigorous programs provide significant opportunities for first-hand experimental and theoretical investigations and a solid foundation in the basic principles of the discipline.

Professor of Physics Suzanne Amador Kane used a headcam on a goshawk to learn how it searches for its prey.

Sustainability

The Committee for Environmental Responsibility (CER) was created by the students, faculty, and staff of Haverford College, and founded on our socially responsible principles. CER's mission is to educate our community about global environmental concerns, and to be a positive example for students at Haverford and other colleges to follow.

UPenn Engineering 4+1 Program

“I specifically remember choosing Haverford, in part, because of the 4+1 engineering program. It provides a fantastic opportunity for Haverford students to get two degrees from two great schools in only five years, while also opening up an avenue into the engineering world for those of us who want to pursue that career path.”  - Sam Yarosh '16

Haverford is the first liberal arts college in the world to enter into such an agreement with an Ivy League engineering program.

Cool Classes - “Case Studies in Environmental Issues”

Case Studies in Environmental Issues: Concepts, Contexts, and Conundrums

"The study of the environment is larger than any one class—or faculty member’s expertise—so we’ve designed the course to study a small number of case studies each year from the perspective of two faculty members in different disciplines: ideally, a scientist and someone from the social sciences, humanities, or arts." Assistant Professor of Biology Jonathan Wilson
