Then & Now: Magill Library Then

Magill Library

Long before it was renamed and expanded, Magill Library got its start as Alumni Hall. Originally proposed by the Haverford College Alumni Association as a place to hold meetings, the building took on a dual purpose when the Board of Managers suggested that a portion of the hall be used to accommodate the College’s library, which was then bursting out of a second story room in Founders Hall.

Come back tomorrow to see Magill Library at Haverford “Now”.

Customs

The #Classof2021 has arrived and is now immersed in Customs, Haverford College’s First-Year Experience program, which includes a five-day orientation immediately preceding the fall semester.

Incoming students participate in a "trust walk", just one of many Customs week activities.

Being a Student-Athlete

"When I stepped onto campus freshman year I never envisioned that I would consider my teammates and my coaches as family. By pushing each other to succeed both on and off the court, that dynamic grows stronger each day. I am so proud to wear Haverford on my chest and play the game that I love while being a part of something much larger than myself." –Sierra Berkel '18

Haverfarm

The Haverfarm is a year-round farming and educational space that introduces sustainable food and agriculture into the lives of Haverford students, faculty, staff, and community members.

Haverfarm produce—like this oversized cabbage held by Hayden Kesterson '19—is distributed to students, community members, the dining center, and local food banks. Photo: Cole Sansom '19

Summer Centered: Sophie Frank ’19

For Sophie Frank ’19, a comparative literature major, a French minor, and a concentration in Africana studies means having the tools to tell the stories that don’t always make it into the limelight. This summer, at her internship at ONE National Gay and Lesbian Archives, funded by the John B. Hurford ’60 Center for the Arts and Humanities, the Los Angeles local is hoping to learn and share the stories of the LGBTQ community in her hometown.
