Details
Students fro the "Bioethics + Social Justice" class took part in the Day of Community Engagement.
On March 18, 2016, as part of Haverford College’s campus wide event “Day of Community Engagement,” students, faculty, and staff, visited Puentes de Salud, a community-based organization in Philadelphia. The visit was organized in conjunction with the Health Studies and Anthropology course, “Bioethics + Social Justice.”
Puentes de Salud is a community based organization that promotes the health and wellness of Latino immigrants in Philadelphia. During our visit we enjoyed a tour of the Health and Wellness Center and heard from Seema Doshi – Haverford Fellow – and staff about their collaborative, multidisciplinary programs to improve the health of the community. We learned about their experiences providing medical care, health education, social services, and their efforts at community organizing for health and wellbeing. Over a shared meal, we discussed ethics of social medicine and social justice in fostering community wellbeing.
