Health Insurance
Haverford College requires all students to have health insurance coverage. The Student Health Insurance Plan is designed for Haverford students to meet this need. Domestic students who have their own coverage are able to waive out of the Student Health Insurance plan during the annual wavier period. Students who do not have their own policy or do not waive out of the plan will be enrolled in the Student Health Insurance plan. Students are notified via email in advance of the waiver period with the cost of the plan and dates for the waiver.
All international students are required to be enrolled in the Student Health Insurance plan.
Billing
Each year, all students are automatically billed the Student Health Insurance Plan premium charge by the Controller's Office. Please allow 3-5 business days to see the SHIP charge removed from the tuition bill once the student has "waived" out. If you have any questions regarding Student Health Insurance Plan billing please contact Avery Thomas.
Insurance Disclaimer
Students using their own health insurance must verify coverage in the Philadelphia area. Please note: Health Services cannot provide specialist referrals for HMO plans. Out-of-state Medicaid, Kaiser Permanente, and other insurance plans may not be accepted locally. This could restrict access to off-campus specialists, laboratory services, diagnostic testing, and pharmacy benefits. The Haverford College-sponsored plan is available as an alternative.
