  • Laura Gilroy '11 is interning this summer at an orphanage for handicapped children and working with HIV-positive patients in Ho Chi Minh City.
  • Martha Van Artsdalen, Haverford's plant curator, was recently interviewed for an article that appeared in the Delaware County News. Van Artsdalen is responsible for keeping an inventory of and caring for all of the trees and shrubs in the College's arboretum, which is over 100 years old.

  • Hilary Malson '11 is designing an online exhibit as an intern with the Library Company of Philadelphia.
  • Mark Rembert '07 was one of five finalists featured on the July 19th broadcast of the 2010 VH1 Do Something Awards Show. The prize recognizes young people 25 and under who are making the world a better place. Rembert co-founded an organization called Energize Clinton County to help strengthen the economic future of his hometown of Wilmington, Ohio.
  • Matthew Sazinsky '99, a chemistry professor at Pomona College, has received the Distinguished Professor Award for Excellence in Teaching from Pomona students.
  • Ivana Evans '12 is teaching English and empowering students to make an impact in Puerto Jimenez, Costa Rica.
  • Rembert spoke with Jones about his ongoing efforts to encourage economic development in his hometown of Wilmington, Ohio, and shares his thoughts on how young people can affect social change.

  • Isobel Grad '11 is interning on an urban farm in Seattle, teaching children from low-income families about gardening and nutrition.
  • Sharada Tolton '11 is interning with Shakespeare in Clark Park in Philadelphia to assist with this summer's production.
  • Historian John S. Major '64 and his colleagues have become the first academics to completely translate the Huainanzi--a work of political philosophy dating back to the Han Dynasty--into English.
  • Maia Freudenberger '13 is volunteering in Nicaragua this summer with the Foundation for the International Medical Relief for Children.
  • Six recent graduates will spend a year living together in Philadelphia and working for local nonprofits through the Center for Peace and Global Citizenship's Haverford House program, which strengthens the school's connection to the city next door.
  • A film created by Sarah Harrison, Cole Fiedler-Kawaguchi, and Matt Liscovitz (all '13) as a final project for the class“Culture and Crisis in the Golden Age of Athens” has won the Best Picture category of the Terence Awards for Excellence in Classics Student Filmmaking.
  • Caroline Malapero '11 is spending the summer learning about urban farming and studying ways to help New York City plan for a sustainable future.
  • With the help of funding from Haverford's Center for Peace and Global Citizenship, Blase A. Provitola '11 is interning at Planned Parenthood in Philadelphia, where they are helping to promote reproductive rights and sex education at the state and national level.
