Haverford College
The Bi-Co Department of Environmental Studies invites you to join ENVS students and faculty in Haverford College's VCAM Lounge on Tuesday, December 10, from 1-3:30 pm for a special potluck, story-sharing session, and calendula oil workshop with multidisciplinary artist Maria Dumlao and Haverfarm Manager Cassandra Brown.
This gathering celebrates the end of the semester and the work of ENVS students have been doing this year in the Community Praxis class, focused on cultural resilience, tech justice, mutual aid, and community sustainability through a diasporic lens. Together, we’ll explore themes of adaptation, cultural preservation, and food justice while sharing experiences, seeds, and recipes.
Please bring something to share - a snack, a main dish, seeds to share and plant in the spring, or an ingredient - that has personal or cultural significance to you. Following the talks, Cassandra will guide us through a workshop on making calendula oil, where Calendula flowers, harvested this season from Haverfarm, will be soaked in oil to start a process that can later be used to create healing salves.
All are welcome!
Sponsored by Bi-Co Department of Environmental Studies, the Haverfarm, the Hurford Center for the Arts and Humanities, and VCAM.
