Nominate candidates for The Alumni Association Achievement Awards
The Classes of 1946–2011 will celebrate reunions next May. Please consider making a nomination for one or more of the awards. Awards will be presented during Alumni Weekend 2016. Your nominee does not necessarily have to be in a reunion class; however, it is particularly meaningful to receive an award while celebrating a reunion on campus. Please note, the Alumni Awards Committee will only consider nominations that provide detailed and concise background information (which may include personal stories, newspaper articles, concurrence from other alumni, or other pertinent information) in support of the nominee.
All nominations must be received by Friday, October 30, 2015. Questions? Please alumni [at] haverford.edu (subject: Alumni%20Awards) (contact Alumni and Parent Relations) (610-896-1004).
Awards Committee: Bennett Berson ’81 (Chair), Peter Anderson ’92, Samantha Phillips Beers ’84, Christina Bradley ’12, Iris Colon ’06, Lisa Sharf Green ’84, Rachel Oliner ’11, Ann Rivera ’96, Celine Tobal ’06
Haverford Abroad
In June, 45 Haverford alumni and families set sail for 10 days aboard the small luxury cruise liner the M.S. Le Lyrial for an educational travel experience. The tour, entitled "Odyssey of Ancient Civilizations," began in Venice, Italy and ended in Athens, Greece, with ports of call along the Dalmatian Coast of the Adriatic Sea. Former President Dan Weiss gave a talk on "The Classical Art of Ancient Greece" and facilitated a discussion on the topography of Homer's Ithaca. Although several other institutions were represented on-board, including the Smithsonian, Duke University, Tufts University, and the University of Southern California, the Haverford group was the largest and totaled nearly half of all passengers.
In June 2016, Haverford will embark on a new travel adventure. Join us for:
Changing Tides of History: Cruising the Baltic Sea
June 15-24, 2016
Denmark, Poland, Estonia, Russia, Finland, and Sweden
Featuring Haverford Professor of History Linda Gerstein
Guest Speakers: Lech Wałęsa, former president of Poland; Dr. Sergei N. Khrushchev, son of Nikita Khrushchev
Cruise from Copenhagen to Stockholm, experience two days in St. Petersburg during the spectacular “White Nights.” Travelers will visit six countries and six UNESCO World Heritage sites, exploring the rich history and cultural rebirth of the Baltic States.
Book your trip by November 23, 2015 to save $1,000 per person. For travel-related questions or to reserve your space by phone, contact the tour operator, Gohagan & Company, at 1-800-922-3088 x267. Fall Phonathon
In the coming weeks, Haverford students will be calling alumni and parents as part of Haverford's bi-annual Phonathon—that could mean you! They are eager to share the latest updates from campus and ask you to consider supporting the Annual Fund, which helps make their experiences possible. When you see 610-896-1000 calling, be sure to say ‘hello’ to one of our student callers.

Fall for the 'Ford during Young Alumni Giving Month
This October marks the sixth annual Young Alumni Giving Month, celebrating the importance of support for Haverford from graduates of the last decade (Classes of 2006–2015). Every young alumni gift to the Annual Fund made by October 31, 2015 will be matched dollar for dollar by Henry Ritchotte '85, a member of the Board of Managers. Make your gift and double your impact today.
Stop By and Say Hello
Haverford College has an open campus, and we welcome alumni, families, and friends to visit. We are grateful to be a part of a campus community that is the oldest arboretum and planned college landscape in the country. Our meticulously maintained 200 acres contain a nature trail (recently named the best suburban running trail by Philadelphia Magazine), a pinetum, flower gardens, and scampering black squirrels (who also tweet).
The quiet beauty of the campus reflects a landscape design created in 1834 by the English gardener William Carvill. Walk the 2.25-mile nature trail, feed the ducks at the Duck Pond, and admire some of the campus's more than 2,500 labeled trees, including: the Penn Treaty Elm, a descendant of the American Elm under which William Penn signed his treaty with the Native Americans in 1682; several of Carvill's historic trees; collections of oaks, beeches, and maples; and 19 state-champion trees.
While on campus, stop by the bookstore to check out the latest Haver-gear, grab a snack at the Coop, and be sure to pop into Founders and say hello to Alumni and Parent Relations.
