Highlights of Family & Friends Weekend 2015
- Highlights included special programming devoted to Haverfordians in business, entrepreneurism, finance, and consulting. And, of course, families took time to reconnect with their Fords.
- A packed house enjoyed the keynote event where Adi Ignatius '81, editor-in-chief of Harvard Business Review, interviewed global leader and entrepreneur Howard W. Lutnick '83, chairman and CEO of Cantor Fitzgerald and BGC Partners, who served on Haverford's Board of Managers for 21 years, the last three as chair. Watch the full interview online.
- Thank you to the more than 125 young alumni who stopped by the second annual Young Alumni Homecoming on Saturday afternoon. We look forward to seeing you again next year!
943 Young Alumni Participated in Young Alumni Giving Month
Thank you for another successful Young Alumni Giving Month! A big thank you to the 943 young alumni (from the Classes of 2006–2015) who participated in the sixth annual challenge. They made 919 gifts and 24 pledges to the Annual Fund, totaling $55,115 and securing a $100,000 match from Haverford Board member Henry Ritchotte ’85. The continued support from our young alumni community is an incredible demonstration of commitment to Haverford and the reason we celebrate young alumni each October!
Become an Alumni Admission Volunteer
Numerous Haverford alumni assist the Admission Office in promoting the College by talking to students across the U.S. and around the world. These volunteers provide an invaluable service, giving students an "inside" view of the Haverford community through their own experiences and ongoing knowledge of the College.
Volunteers can help in a variety of ways:
- interview prospective students (in-person or via Skype when applicable)
- represent Haverford at local college fairs
- attend admission receptions
For more information about the program or to register as a volunteer, please contact Admission Volunteer Coordinator aabolafi [at] haverford.edu (subject: admission%20volunteering) (Amy Abolafia) (610-896-1319).
Alumni Travel Program
Changing Tides of History: Cruising the Baltic Sea
Denmark | Poland | Estonia | Russia | Finland | Sweden
June 15–24, 2016
Join Professor of History Linda Gerstein on a six-country, eight-night Baltic Sea cruise. Enjoy a rare opportunity to hear enriching presentations by former President of Poland Lech Wałęsa and Brown University professor Sergei Khrushchev, the son of Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev. Cruise aboard the five-star M.S. Le Boreal and visit six UNESCO World Heritage sites.
Linda Gerstein is a professor of History and chair of Independent College Programs at Haverford. She specializes in Russian and Modern European History. Her biography of Nikolai Strakhov (Harvard University Press) marked the first full-length intellectual biography in any language of Strakhov, providing a guide to the individual and to nineteenth-century Russian intellectual life. She has also written about the Russian dissident intelligentsia and about Russian Art Nouveau architecture. Linda has trained generations of Haverfordians, including many who have become prominent in academia, international policy, and business, in their own right. She has co-led study trips for undergraduate students from Bryn Mawr, Haverford, and peer institutions to the Soviet Union and to Warsaw, Budapest, and Prague in the tumultuous spring of 1989. She received her B.A. from Radcliffe and her Ph.D. from Harvard University. On this trip she will discuss: history and its discontents: transitions to the future and transitions back to the past; the uneasy identity of being "Scandanavian;" and art and architecture as national identity-discourse.
