Message From Board Chair Howard Lutnick on Departure of President Weiss
Details
Friends,
As you have just heard, Dan Weiss will be leaving Haverford this summer to become the next president of The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. It is difficult to imagine a more qualified or suitable leader for one of the world's greatest museums, although we will miss him here at Haverford. I hope you will join me in congratulating Dan on this exciting new opportunity.
Dan leaves Haverford in a position of strength. When we identified him as the College's 14th president, we knew we had found a leader who could help us articulate our goals for the next period in Haverford's history and then marshal the resources to realize those goals. Since his arrival, Dan has done just that, to significant effect.
Of course, our accomplishments were achieved through collaboration; we all worked together for the betterment of the community we share. We are in the enviable position of having a completed strategic plan that we are now implementing, a financial base that will sustain our ambitions, an outstanding leadership team, and renewed focus and energy. The Plan for Haverford 2020 represents the discernment and aspirations of our entire community—faculty, staff, students, alumni, and friends—reached over the course of a number of years. We should be proud of the distance we have traveled over that time. We should take great satisfaction that, with the continued engagement and generosity of our alumni and friends, and especially the Board of Managers, Haverford is already turning our objectives into realities, including new plans for four core academic spaces, new faculty and curricular programs, and continued commitment to access and affordability.
There is much for us to do this spring in continuing our ambitious agenda for Haverford. Dan will lead the College until his departure this summer with all of our strong support as the Board of Managers engages in a process regarding next steps. I look forward to updating you.
Sincerely,
Howard W. Lutnick
Chair, Board of Managers
