Tennis ace Laura Chaddock '06 has been named an NCAA Post-Graduate Scholar, the second member along with runner Grant Scott from the just-graduated senior class to receive that prestigious distinction. Chaddock, a psychology major, will study at the University of Illinois graduate school in the fall.
Tennis ace Laura Chaddock '06 has been named an NCAA Post-Graduate Scholar, the second member along with runner Grant Scott from the just-graduated senior class to receive that prestigious distinction. Chaddock, a psychology major, will study at the University of Illinois graduate school in the fall.
Chaddock finished her senior season ranked 26th in the NCAA Mid-South Region, with a 17-7 singles record while completing four years of play under coach Ann Koger.
At Commencement, she received the First Clementine Cope Fellowship for graduate school, traditionally the highest award given by Haverford. She also earned the David Olton '64 Award for student achievement in psychology, named after the late Commodore of Haverford Sailing when that activity was a varsity sport here. She was also Magna Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa and a recipient of High Honors in psychology.
Chaddock was also a devoted captain and very effective member of several campus groups, a leader among her classmates in athletic matters as well as in the classroom.
Haverford has now produced 20 NCAA Scholars (and two alternates) going back to Hunter Rawlings '66. Chaddock is the fourth woman among that group. Only one previous class, 2001, matched this class' achievement in turning out two winners, when Matt Popowsky (baseball) and Robin Herlands (field hockey/lacrosse) were both named for the award.
HC athletes have now won 12 NCAA Post-Graduate Scholarships in the past decade, one of the highest totals in all NCAA Division III.
