FORD FAITHFUL RETURN FOR ALUMNI WEEKEND 2005
Details
Approximately 950 alumni, spouses, and guests returned to campus May 27 through 29 to enjoy old friends, faculty, and the friendly environs of 370 Lancaster Avenue.
During the awards ceremony on Saturday, the 2005 Haverford Award was presented to Joel Selanikio '86. The Haverford Award supports and demonstrates the College's expressed concern for the application of knowledge to socially useful ends. It seeks to identify, reward, and focus public attention on those alumni/ae who best reflect Haverford's concern with the uses to which they put their knowledge, humanity, initiative, and individuality.
Joel Selanikio, M.D., is a Quaker and former Senior Health Advisor within the Office of the Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS). During his time at HHS, he served as Director of Emergency Response Coordination for HHS's Office of Public Health Emergency Preparedness, and Chief of Operations for the HHS Secretary's Emergency Command Center in the aftermath of the September 11th and anthrax attacks of 2001. In addition, Joel has also spent extensive time in Indonesia, aiding the tsunami victims as part of the International Rescue Committee.
