Fine Arts Professor Ying Li to exhibit Recent Coastal Paintings in Lohin Geduld Gallery in Chelsea, New York November 20, 2008 -January 3, 2009
Details
Ying Li's energetic, highly textured oil canvases depicting maritime life will be on display in Lohin Geduld Gallery, 532 West 25th St, in New York from November 20 through January 3. An opening reception will kick off the solo exhibit on Saturday, November 20th, from 5-7. Additionally, Li will also be featured as speaker at a gallery event sponsored by the Alumni Relations Office on December 12, 6-8 p.m.
Another recent exhibition by the artist,“Ying Li Drawings, 2004- 2007," at The Painting Center in New York, is currently featured in artcritical.com. The critic John Goodrich writes of this collection: "Ying Li's attack in these ten charcoal portraits shows the same unique blend of impetuosity and rigor as her paintings. Outlines criss-cross and flail, contours twist, and details emerge and dissolve without discernable method. And yet we're left, remarkably, with likenesses that seem all the more human for the struggle. Seldom is orneriness so empathetic, and ferocity so astute."
