Emma Eisenberg '09 has won the Bennington Fiction prize for her short story, "This is Not the Whole Story. " The work, originally published in the Haverford Review, is among the selections featured in the online anthology Plain China: Best Undergraduate Writing 2009, from which the prize winners were chosen.
Atlantic Monthly fiction editor C. Michael Curtis, a Bennington Fiction Prize judge, said of Eisenberg's tale of adolescent sexual exploration,“It is brave, eloquent, prideful, carnal, and disturbing. It is also, sadly, convincing and unflinching.”
"This is Not the Whole Story" was part of the creative writing senior thesis Eisenberg, an English major, wrote at Haverford. She currently lives in West Virginia, where she works for High Rocks Educational Corporation as a college readiness advisor, youth mentor and creative writing teacher running after school programs in poetry and fiction writing for high school students.
