CPGC Announces 2022 Interns
Details
The Center for Peace and Global Citizenship will be supporting the work of 58 Bi-Co students this summer at internships both in-person and virtual, across the U.S. and around the world.
The Center for Peace and Global Citizenship (CPGC) has awarded fellowships to 58 Bi-Co students to support their internships this summer. These internships are a mix of in-person and virtual; local, national, and international; and part of on-going CPGC partnerships and designed independently by students.
A CPGC Fellowship is a funded opportunity for Haverford and Bryn Mawr students to advance social justice learning and action. In addition to financial support for a summer internship, the CPGC provides preparation, opportunities for intentional reflection, skill-building, and cohort learning during and after the internship. Each intern was selected because they demonstrated an intellectual engagement with an important issue and a commitment to understanding how global processes affect local communities.
“This group of 58 emerged from among 90 excellent applicants,” said CPGC Executive Director Eric Hartman. “It was difficult for our community partners and fellowship review committee to make these selections among so many exceptional students. What we have now is a truly incredible class of fellows. They speak numerous languages and bring depth and diversity of experience to their applications, having previously advanced community initiatives, served as EMTs, and excelled in their high school, college, and community leadership opportunities. We are excited to work with them during the months to come.”
Roughly 40% of this year’s student fellows are working with organizations in the greater Philadelphia area, 40% are working with international organizations, and two-thirds will be working in person at least part of the time at their internship. Four of them are Mawrters and 54 of them are Fords, and they are drawn from all current class years, including four graduating members of the Class of 2022. Of the Haverford students receiving fellowships, 64% receive need-based financial aid from the College and 17% are international students.
