COMMENCEMENT 2006
Details
On Sunday, May 14, 303 Haverford seniors were concerned that they would be the first class in years to have its graduation ceremony indoors. The rain held off, though, and the Class of 2006 was all smiles as it filed to the stage in front of Roberts Hall, where President Tom Tritton greeted them. Each senior shook Tritton's hand and left him with a door key—this class was the first to experience Haverford's keyless entry system.
Honorary degrees were awarded to Lois Gibbs, executive director of the Center for Health, Environment, and Justice; Jane Golden Heriza, artist and founder of the Philadelphia Mural Arts Program; Tavis Smiley, political commentator on public radio and television; and Koïchiro Matsuura '61, Director General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
The Class of 2006 was distinguished with too many prizes, honors, and awards to be listed here, but it is worth noting that there were no fewer than four Fulbright Scholars in the class.
