Summer Series 2023: DLL Financial Solutions
Details
Funding Source: Whitehead Internship Program
Hello! My name is Roza and I’m a rising junior. This summer, I’m a marketing intern in the pay-per-use unit in DLL!
DLL is a finance company, and pay-per-use (PPU) is a pretty new unit within the company, as it was created only a few years ago. This means that the PPU team is a bit smaller and more agile regarding decisions about clients and deals. I’m really enjoying my experience on the team! My manager is incredible – she helps guide me through projects, includes me in meetings and is always open to answering any questions that I have. I’ve also really enjoyed meeting other people that work in the PPU unit, as it’s really easy to set up coffee chats with other employees to learn more about their jobs.
I’m currently on my fourth week of the internship, and I’ve been assigned to and worked on three projects. For the first project, I’m helping create an interactive powerpoint about the PPU unit which will provide a deeper view into different parts of PPU. For the second project, I researched events and opportunities for PPU to sponsor. I’m helping create a powerpoint to pitch some of these opportunities to our global head, who will decide if these opportunities are worth sponsoring by PPU. For the third project, I’m helping edit an article about PPU, which will be eventually pitched to a news outlet and hopefully published. I really like all of my projects! I’m excited to be gaining experience in the marketing field, and it’s great that I will have actual deliverables that I can then talk about in future interviews.
Regarding my work schedule, I work remotely from my house, from 9 am – 5 pm. I usually have one to three virtual meetings per day, but it really depends on the specific timelines of my projects.
I’m enjoying the research, design and organization part of my projects. I’ve liked trying to figure out how to present information to different audiences, how to organize this information in the clearest way possible, and in general, it’s been great getting to learn a lot of information about a new industry. Some advice that I have for students regarding summer internships would be to do your research on the company before an interview. Make sure you’ve really dived into the company’s website and understand what the company does. Take a look at their company values and mission statement. It’s also good to find something specific that stands out to you about the company that excites/interests you, that you could mention in an interview.
During an internship, it’s really helpful to have a tracker in which you write down what projects you are assigned to, what tasks you do every day, and what meetings you attend. Excel is a good tool for this. It’s a good idea to keep track of what you do during your internship so you can later use this information to update your resume or talk about your experience in a future interview.
