Hi friends! I’m Yasmin, Class of 2026, and this summer I’m an Impact Analyst Intern at ImpactableX, an AI-powered analytics platform designed to help founders and funders in the impact ecosystem build dynamic, comparable impact models. This platform enables users to manage and report on social and environmental impact at various levels, including product, company, and portfolio. It was originally developed under the umbrella of Bloomberg Philanthropies and Obama Administration initiatives, and I worked closely with Catherine Griffin, Founder & CEO, and Madison Sultan HC ‘19, who was also a Whitehead Program Intern!
Another aspect of Impactable’s modeling I really loved is the analytical rigor and the valuations included. With this, we can report impact at the dollar value, a language that everyone understands. Every outcome and metric on an impact model is grounded on evidence pulled from third-party data through intensive research, and this component was one of the tasks I enjoyed the most. My responsibilities included economic research for environmental and social impact analyses, supporting the implementation of our custom AI model, new client prospecting, supporting customer case studies, and content creation for our blog and social media.
A highlight of my internship was conducting interviews with leaders in the impact space to understand why the IMM (impact measurement and management) industry is fragmented when it comes to data harmonization—essentially, why people use different methodologies for similar goals when investors have difficulty comparing investment performance. Since the field is relatively new, I found it empowering to reach the industry knowledge frontiers as an intern where even experts ask me to share my findings and who admit, "I don’t have an answer for you, we are still trying to figure this out."
If you’re curious about using capitalism for social good, I strongly recommend courses like ECON 298: Impact Investing, and HMFC, the Haverford Microfinance Consulting Club. Mentored by Professor Shannon Mudd and backed by MI3, this club is dedicated to supporting institutions aiming to increase financial access for underserved communities through micro-loans supporting global entrepreneurs. We also research and screen microfinance institutions (MFIs) to determine investment strategies and assess social startups before deploying funds.
I’m truly grateful for this summer experience, especially learning from Madison, Catherine, Impactable’s partners and everyone I interviewed. I’m eager to witness the company’s growth and the legacy it will imprint. A big thank you to the Whitehead Internship Fund for facilitating this remarkable summer experience.
