Hi everyone! I’m Mia Khuc ‘26, a Math major, and this summer, I had the opportunity to intern on the Strategy Team at MKThink. MKThink is an architecture firm dedicated to creating smart spaces, and every one of MKThink’s design decisions is informed by the data analysis work that I was fortunate enough to be a part of.
During my 10-week internship, I focused my efforts on two of MKThink’s projects: the assessment of an existing public school system and the site selection/ development of new school campuses. With the support from my supervisors and colleagues, I dived headfirst into the strategy work that is at the center of these projects: collecting, cleaning, analyzing, and visualizing various data points. One of the goals that I accomplished through this internship was to strengthen my understanding of technical tools through practical challenges, tools that I was first exposed to at Haverford, such as Python, R, or ArcGIS.
Being in a professional environment and collaborating with like-minded colleagues allowed me to see myself in a similar context post-graduation and confirmed the career prospects that I am working towards. Navigating numerous data points was hugely fulfilling, but even more rewarding were the conclusions we drew, which will serve to prioritize community health and safety.
A big thank you to Matthew Kim, my supervisor and colleague, for his guidance and trust. Thank you to the San Francisco and Hawaii teams, especially Nate Goore, Chris Hong, Lila Edwards, and Sean Dasey, for their counsel and generosity. I’m excited to see these projects realized, and I’m keeping a close eye on the future innovations that MKThink will undertake.
I’m grateful to the Whitehead Internship Fund and Haverford’s CCPA for facilitating this incredible experience.
