This summer, I had the incredible opportunity to intern with Capture6, a company committed to reducing carbon dioxide emissions through innovative carbon capture technologies. Based in Dublin, I worked closely with engineers and scientists to explore sustainable solutions to climate change. My main project focused on quantifying passive CO₂ release from industrial wastewater evaporation ponds using desalination brine. This involved using the PHREEQC software for complex data analysis, modeling the evaporation process, and studying how different environmental factors influence CO₂ emissions.
One of the most valuable aspects of this internship was the balance between technical learning and practical application. I was able to deepen my understanding of environmental engineering while also honing my programming and problem-solving skills. Throughout the project, I gained an appreciation for the importance of small-scale, data-driven insights in contributing to global environmental solutions.
In addition to the technical side, I enjoyed working in a collaborative and forward-thinking environment. The team's passion for sustainability was contagious, and I was inspired by their determination to tackle one of the most pressing issues of our time. The experience also allowed me to think critically about how interdisciplinary approaches—combining math, economics, and engineering—are vital in solving complex global challenges.
As my internship comes to a close, I am leaving with a newfound passion for carbon capture technology and a desire to contribute to this field in the future. This experience has not only enhanced my academic knowledge but also clarified my career goals. I’m excited to bring this knowledge back to my studies and future projects
