Hi! My name is Hassan and I am a rising junior (class of 2026) at Haverford majoring in Math and Economics. I interned this past summer at Maxsa Innovations in Fairfax Station, VA, about a 30-45 minute ride from Washington DC. The company has a small team of about six employees and is run by Skip West, a Haverford alum.
I would say the most defining thing about my experience at Maxsa Innovations was breadth. Maxsa would need me to work on all sorts of projects. Every day was different—some days would be shipping and logistics, and others would be doing a sales analysis on our products. I got to work with everyone on the team and experience all the parts of running the day-to-day of a small business.
One of the major things I learned about here was just how much building relationships matters in running a successful business. A lot of Skip’s time would be divided between operations and calls to explore new business opportunities from the supply side to the marketing side.
One of my main projects this summer was working on a startup focused on plane contrail avoidance. As someone really interested in the sustainability industry, it was a great experience getting to work on this project. I got to work on things like developing a business plan for the startup and working on materials for pitching to investors. One of the best things about Maxsa is that all my work had an impact, and I got to be involved in all of the work the company was doing.
