Pinetum
PINETUM: a scientific collection of living conifers.
Between 1928 and 1948 hundreds of young conifers were transplanted to an 18-acre site now known as the Pinetum. The planting was arranged as a scientific collection and planted by family and genus. The collection includes examples of trees in 5 of the 7 conifer families and 27 species of pine alone.
As you enter the Pinetum, numbered markers on posts will lead you to 15 areas of specific interest. The Pinetum is also home to most of Haverford’s State Champion trees, indicated by gold labels. Both the selected conifers with numbered posts and the State Champions are indicated on the guide map.
